1.18 Gaia, Sandeman Cellars
Gaia is a city and a municipality in Porto District and It is located south of the city of Porto on the other side of the Douro River. Here we visited the Sandeman Port Cellars.

Viewed from Gaia these are boats once used to transport port from the growing regions here to the cellars for aging and storage. Porto is in the background across the Douro River.

Its historic town centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, in recognition for being an "exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town" in Europe.

Fado is a music genre that can be traced to the 1820s in Lisbon. We visited a cabaret for a session while in Porto. Very interesting. This is a photo taken of a painting I thought represented the genre well. Apologies to the artist.

The Capela dos Ossos (English: Chapel of Bones) is one of the best-known monuments in Évora, Portugal. It is a small interior chapel located next to the entrance of the Church of St. Francis. The Chapel gets its name because the interior walls are covered and decorated with human skulls and bones.
