White Sands NP Day 1
Recent heavy rains in the park were obvious when we arrived in the Alkali Flat area. This is a picnic area near the Alkali Flat trailhead.
A view in Alkali Flats as the sun nears the hoizon. Beautiful long shadows and muted colors.
An easterly view in Alkali Flats with the foreground almost completely covered in shadow but the dunes in the background are still fully exposed.
Now looking to the west as the evening sky lights up dramatically.
Now as we go into the blue hour with the sun fully set the only light on the dunes is from the color in the sky.
White Sands NP Day 2
As the sky brightens just before sunrise the dunes take on a beautiful golden glow.
A Journey Through the Sand - With the sun still fairly low these tire tracks just pop.
For our evening shoot we went into an area of the park with lower dunes and lots of yucca. The yucca by the way is New Mexico's state flower.
Sun setting behind a yucca on top of a dune ridge line.
White Sands NP Day 3
This morning we are shooting in an area near the Dune Life Nature Trail. Here an intersting yucca grows atop a knob of gypsum as sunrise approaches.
Shadows begin to disappear as the sun rises.
Yucca growing in an intradunal area. We're back in Alkali Flats for the evening shoot.
Creosote beautifully highlighted as the sun nears the horizon.
The Lone Photographer - Do you see him atop a dune in the middle of the image?
A wonderful blend of light and shadow as sunset nears.
And finally the sun sets beautifully painting the sky in multiple colors and softening the dunes' contours.
White Sands NP Day 4
On our final day at the park we were lucky to witness a hot air baloon event. Winds can often cancel these events but not today!
