Fall Scenery
On our drive from Calgary to Banff NP we stopped at a number of regional and provencial parks to shoot fall scenery. In some cases it looked more like winter due to an early snow fall.
Moraine Lake
We were very fortunate to see Moraine Lake with fresh snow fall as this area normaliy closes with the onset of winter. The emerald-hued water was absolutely spectacular! There is a canoe at the far end of the lake.
Here the peaks to the west of Maoraine begin to emerge from the clouds.
Here a photographer prepares to shoot this magnificent scenery as more peaks emerge in the distance.
The red canoe I noted in my first Moraine Lake image stands out among the other boats still covered with fresh snow.
On the left is a small rock-strewn hill where I took the first 3 Moraine Lake images. In the center is a monolith referred to as The Tower of Babel.
Moraine's surface was so smooth it felt as though I was looking through green-tinted glass. And what amazing reflections!!!
On our next visit to Moraine the snow had been replaced with fog yielding this soft somewhat surreal view at the boat dock.
Lake Louise
A popular lake for canoeing in Banff NP.
Saskatchewan River Overlook
While driving up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper we stopped at this overlook to admire the Saskatchewan River.
Athabasca River
Farther up the Icefield Parkway we stopped at a rest area along the Athabasca River.
As we neared Jasper the highway crossed the Athabasca River and of course the sun was setting so we had to stop.
Patricia Lake
Sunrise at Patricia Lake near Jasper provided a host of beautiful misty views as the sun began to paint the mountains and sky with soft orange light.
Sunset at Patricia Lake was a totally different experience than sunrise. No foggy mists on the lake but beautiful pastels in the sky.
Pyramid Lake
Just up the road from Patricia we found this wonderful scene with a tethered canoe, ducks nearby, and soft misty reflections.
Vermillion Lakes
Near the town of Banff, this series of small lakes was resplendent with fall color.
Bow Lake Prescribed Burn
25 years ago this area was of Banff NP was burned as a part of their managemant program. Now the new growth surrounding the burn's reminants provide a beautiful contrast.
