The shores of Lake Tekapo in spring are a sight to behold. The fields of multi-colored lupine here as well as other areas on the South Island are just amazing.

Mt. Cook's Hooker River

One of the most popular day tramps (hikes) in Mt. Cook National Park is to Hooker Lake/Glacier located on Mt. Cook's southern flank. This is a shot of the Hooker River a mile or so downstream from the lake.

Mt. Cook's Kea Point

Another popular walk at Mt. Cook NP is to Kea Point. The trail pretty much ends at the point and offers striking views of the Southern Alps and the Mueller Glacier lake.

Ben Lomond Vista

The Ben Lomond Track above Queenstown is one of the areas most popular hikes. This was shot from the track and shows Lake Wakatipu and portions of Queenstown. The cloud-lined Remarkables are to the left of the lake.

Abel Tasman Lagoon

Abel Tasman National Park is an area with stunning sandy beaches, lagoons and bays. This is a small unnamed lagoon coming off Torrent Bay. The larger bay in the background is Tasman Bay.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing

Considered one of the best day treks in NZ, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing traverses 19.4 KM of the park and offers spectacular views of volcanic peaks along the way. This shot is at the beginning of the hike which we started at sunrise.

The Emerald Pools are at the trek's mid-point. Here I am standing just below Red Crater which is the trek's highest point at 1886 meters. From this point we had originally planned to do a little side trip out to Tongariro Peak but the high winds and low visibility changed our minds.

We spent our final 3 days in Hahei on the North Island's Coromandel Peninsula. This is a shot of Hahei Beach at sunset with Te Karaka Island in the distance.

This rock is known as Sphinx Rock and is in Mare's Leg Cove. The dark area along the cliff is the Cathedral Cove Arch.
