On a dark, cloudy, windy morning we were wondering if any light would be getting through at all during sunrise. Then this happened!

This is Celestine Pool. These five images were all shot in the early morning, some before sunrise. This was such an interesting subject. Every time I returned the lighting and clouds had totally changed the scene.

Firehole Lake Drive

A very active thermal pool steaming away early in the morning along Firehole Lake Drive.

This is a portion of anohter thermal pool in Lower Basin. The lighting and steam give it a jurassic look and feel.

A river of thermally heated water flows from it's source destined for the Firehole River nearby.

Black Sand Basin

This is Opalescent Pool in the Black Sand Basin. The pool is cooler than most other surrounding thermal pools and is surrounded by "Bobby Socks" trees. The "Bobby Socks" is actually white silica.

Midway Geyser Field

These are three shots of people walking to and from the Grand Prismatic viewing area in Midway Basin. Shot on two successive nights at sunset, the steaming streams of water are from several large thermal pools above.
