Halema'Uma'mu Crater Before Sunrise
Venting steam and the glow of lava far below, this steam vent in Hale... crater adds an otherworldly light to the clouds overhead and the surrounding area.
Halema'Uma'mu Crater at Daybreak
As day breaks over the crater you can still see a nice glow on the surrounding clouds. The crater is a part of the Kilauea caldera in Volcanoes NP, Hawaii.
Kilauea Lava Flow
I thought this bronze sheen added a lot of interest to this old lava flow in the Kilauea caldera.
Maui's Hana Coast Line
Waves breaking on a lava beach with a rain shower quickly approaching in the distance.
Hana's Red Sand Beach
This small but beautiful beach can be a little difficult to find even though it is in the the small village of Hana.
Beach at Waianapanapa SP
Nice little beach on Maui's east side near Hana.
Haleakala Bamboo Forest #1
Views of the bamboo forest in Haleakala NP on Maui's SE coast. The ever-changing light and sounds of blowing bamboo make being here an almost haunting experience.

Pools at Ohe'o
Otherwise known as Seven Sacred Pools. Seen here at beach level, following this stream up for a mile or so leads to the bamboo forest and several nice waterfalls.
Koki Beach #1
Our favorite destination for sunrise on the Hana coast was Koki Beach, only a few miles from our accomodations. Every morning was stunning in it's own right.

Maluaka Beach at Sunset #1
A beautiful little-used beach area in the Makena section of Maui. Islands on the horizon are Lanai (R) and Kaho'olawe (L). I love that they could easily be taken for active volcanoes given the sunset colors and clouds.
Maluaka Beach at Sunset #2
La Perouse Bay #1
A beautiful and wild area in Maui's SW corner little used by tourists. Photographically the waves and lava beaches offer unlimited potential.

Ke'e Beach Sunset
Kauai's well-known Ke'e Beach is stunning any time of the day but especially for sunsets. This is where you begin your hike along the Napali coast if you're so inclined.
