Aurora at Valahnukur Cliffs
On the first night of our tour we had an opportunity to shoot a class 3-4 aurora. As you can see in the image there was a partial layer of thin clouds blowing onshore. This area is about 45 miles NW of Reykjavik.
Hraunfossar Falls, Snæfellsnes Penninsula
The interesting thing about these falls is that there is no river at the top - the water source is subterranean.
Detail shot of Hraunfossar Falls. It was great to have some fall color in this area.
Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant
The terms surreal and otherworldly come to mind when I look at this image. All elecrical power in Iceland is geothermally generated by the government and provided free to all residents.
Gullfoss in the Golden Circle
Gullfoss is one of Iceland's largest waterfalls. It is a part of the popular route known as the Golden Circle which includes numerous waterfalls and geysers.
Jökulsárlón Black Sand Beach
These shots show pieces of ice, large and small, on a black sand beach. All were shot near sunrise in cloudly conditions. In this shot I used a small penlight for illumination.

I was especially happy to find this piece of ice while there was nice color on the horizon. It was about 2 feet by 2 feet in size.
Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon
These shots show large pieces of ice recently calved from a nearby glacier. The pastel colors in the ice coupled with soft filtered early morning light were stunningly beautiful.
Abandoned Farm Near Höfn
We stopped at this interesting old abandoned farm house on our way to Höfn on Iceland's southeast coast.
Vestrahorn Black Sand Beach
Not far from Höfn we explored an area of black sand dunes. The Vestrahorn mountains are in the background.
Waterfall in Skaftafell National Park
We found this unnamed waterfall near the ring highway in Skaftafell National Park. It was one of my favorites and certainly merits a name of its own.
Seljalandafoss
The Seljalandafoss waterfall in southern Iceland which can be photographed from either side or from behind.
Black Church at Búðir
This is the black church at Budir in the western region of Iceland called Snaefellsnes. It is a popular place for Icelanders to get married.
