For my final week of this trip, I rented a car and headed off to explore the North Islands Northlands area, that is the area north of Auckland. Following that I spent a couple days on the Coromandel Peninsula. Both of these regions have stunning remote beaches and rural countryside. If you have been debating whether to visit NZ, I guarantee these images will convince you to put it to the top of your list.
For the first half of this trip I scheduled an active tour with a company that I have used before - Active New Zealand. Five days of hiking, mountain biking, and black water rafting - great fun! The highlight for me was the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, considered by kiwi's to be New Zealand's best day hike. Stunning volcanic and alpine scenery, 12.5 miles, 2500' of climb and 3500' of descent.
I was joined on this trip by a number of fellow photographers and friends. We travelled through several parks in Nevada, then Cedar Breaks NM, but spent most of our time and in Bryce Canyon NP with 3" of fresh snow on the ground, and Zion NP in glorious fall color. We also did a quick trip to Kodachrome Basin SP near Bryce to experience the interesting sand pipe formations.
These shots were taken during a road trip with my brother, Mark, through New England. We visited Acadia NP in Maine, the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and the Adirondacks in northern New York.
This was a photography trip with my good friend Wanda McKown through Oregon's central and coastal sections and Washington's Olympic NP and North Cascades Highway. The turn-around point for the trip was a wonderful 3-day visit with my daughters and grand-kids in Lynden, WA.
Photos taken while in Yosemite Valley during the winter and spring seasons. Shots also include a group shot taken while I joined friends on a snow shoe hike to Dewey Point - great fun but no real photo ops this time. The spring trip was good for dogwood although it peaked a bit earlier than I would have liked. Wonderful water flow but it won't last long this year darn it.
Exploring Anza-Borrego Desert State Park with Wanda. We hiked into many interesting areas in search of wildflowers but without much luck. However, our efforts at night to get star-field shots were rewarded with wonderful clear night skies and warm desert nights.
Photographs taken during various trips through Napa, Sonoma, and Yolo Counties. First visit was to Napa Valley while the mustard bloom was young, then again several weeks later. Then up to the Geyserville area in Sonoma County. Finally, an exploratory drive into the hillsides of Capay Valley on a nice cloudy spring day.
