A part of the Sossusvlei dune field, the famous Dead Vlei is a large salt pan with dead camel thorn trees, some 1000 years old.

It was a windy morning on the western end of the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes as the sun was just coming up.

Multiple layers of color, shape and texture are what make this image so special to me. It was shot just as the sun was receding behind the mountains to the west and the shadow line began to creep into my foreground.

Mesquite Sand Dunes (Solarized Rendition)

Shot near sunset in the central part of the Mesquite Dune Complex, I particularly liked the simplicity of this image. That led me to processing it as a solarized image giving it the look and feel of a Japanese block print.
